The traditional ironmaking plant is a long process technology that requires the support of three plants: coking plant, sintering plant, and pellet plant. It has high investment, large land area, serious pollution, and high cost. The use of HISMELT ironmaking process can reduce investment, eliminate coking and sintering processes, reduce pollutant emissions during the smelting process, improve smelting efficiency. At the same time, the composition of molten iron is easy to control, low consumption, and low cost. Compared with traditional blast furnaces, it has obvious advantages in ironmaking cost and environmental protection, which meets the long-term development needs of ironmaking technology.

Comparison to Blast furnace and Corex
By integrating different process technologies, a comparative analysis is conducted on the adaptability of raw materials and fuels, iron quality, technological maturity, investment cost, and environmental protection indicators for three different processes: blast furnace, Corex, and HIsmelt, as shown in the table.
 (1) In terms of adaptability to raw materials and fuels, the HIsmelt process is relatively good and is currently the only smelting reduction ironmaking process that does not use coke. At the same time, the unique process characteristics of HIsmelt technology provide more possibilities for its utilization of vanadium titanium ore and high phosphate ore resources, achieving new breakthroughs in promoting resource utilization as mentioned above.
(2) In terms of technological maturity. The blast furnace process still has advantages, but from the perspective of industrial development trends, it will inevitably be replaced by Hismelt and Corex in the future.
(3) Project investment, blast furnace investment is the lowest, but when considering sintering, coking investment and land capital, HIsmelt has great advantages.
(4) Product quality: Due to its unique smelting characteristics, HIsmelt has a significant advantage in producing high-quality molten iron compared to other process flows. Its products can not only be used as steelmaking pig iron, but also as high-end casting raw materials.
(5) From an environmental perspective, HIsmelt is more environmentally friendly, with emissions and waste disposal being more economical and environmentally friendly.
